On Diptych and Self-Portraiture

NO! I am not in any way running out of things to shoot nor photos to post. Rather it’s more on running out of things to do and more on killing out the boredom in me on a steamy Saturday afternoon.

And what could be a better way to get away with it other than well, photography.

I was actually out for a moment for some errands and of course the usual dose of my favorite espresso … below zero while having a puff. As I was alone sitting outside this coffee shop, my mind wanders on the art of creativity. Be it musical or photographic. I remember back in college that I used to spend my spare time playing some guitar riffs over my head to maybe come up with a composition or two. Yeah, that sort of thing, less talk more thoughts. While I did quite the same thing while enjoying my drink, it is now more on the combination of being musical and photographic. Of course that includes the never ending thought of "where really I am headed" in terms of photographic statement.

Going back to the photo, this is not a product of art nor a product of creativity. It is more likely a product of boredom and self exploration. The moment I got home, I got hold of my guitar. Played around 10 songs or so from an 80 giger ipod and jammed along with it. Loud enough to shake some pin lights on my ceiling. It was when I’ve had quite enough of it that I started thinking about photography. I really don’t buy into the idea of photographing myself but there is some sort of personal gratification that lies within when a photographer gets to photograph himself … with a twist.

Diptych. Two photos combined together to make a short story. It’s actually not my first time doing it. However, I would just like to gauge myself on whether or not I had a re-calibrated vision to come up with a right one.

The result? Ain’t there yet. But if you do think that there’s quite a story behind it other than me being crazy standing on our rooftop, half-lit and holding a guitar while waiting for the 10 second timer mode shutter to actuate, I say THANK YOU. 🙂
